Fresh Herbs for Winter Cocktails
Hardy Herbs (most remain harvestable through the year in USDA zones 7+)
Mint- Fresh and dried leaves add a tingle to flavor mixes.
It combines well with citrus drinks—a good strong flavor to richer flavored alcohols like whiskey, bourbon, and rum.
Rosemary- Deep and pungent, rosemary’s hearty aroma and flavor make for an excellent cocktail addition, especially when blended with fruits like oranges, apples, or pears. Fresh-cut sprigs make a festive garnish for holiday drinks.
Sage– Subtle and earthy; use it with citrus mixes and herb syrups. The leaves make a nice garnish.
Thyme- Thyme adds a fresh and earthy flavor. Use lemon-scented varieties for a citrus aroma. thyme’s flavor mixes well with tonic water and gin.
